About this print
‘August’ was painted as a reflection of the light and dark that coincides at the end of summer; of the remaining life and vibrancy of nature coupled with the knowing that it will come to an end as the days get shorter and darkness and decay return. In a parallel way, it is also a reflection on love and grief, on the beauty and joy of relationships alongside a deep knowing that they will, inevitably, come to an end and we will be forced to say goodbye. One cannot exist without the other and it makes the experience all the more beautiful. A bouquet of sunflowers, lavender and roses stands proud inside a blue vase, illuminated by the sun, with the table and wall behind in deep shadow. Water drops down the sunflower and vase, pooling onto the table, reflecting that the flowers have been freshly picked from the garden and are still full of life despite the shade that surrounds them.
